Pot and Kettle

You've got to laugh at all the mock outrage in the papers today - about the proposals announced by Nick Clegg on behalf of the government - to improve social mobility.

If future, the government says that all civil service internships - which give young people much sought after work experience - will be properly advertised so that anyone can apply.

No more jobs for the boys - or girls - through patronage and political connections.

I'll believe it when I see it - but in the meantime the government and Nick Clegg in particular has come under attack for exploiting their own privileged backgrounds.

From none other than Harriet Harman - former deputy leader of the Labour party - here's what she has to say about Nick Clegg:

“You gave up the right to pontificate on social mobility when you abolished Educational Maintenance Allowance, trebled tuition fees and betrayed a generation of young people."

Yes and this is the same Harriet Harman who went to a private schoool herself - and sent her children to a Grant Maintained secondary school instead of her local state school.

And yes, this caused uproar in the Labour party at the time.

A classic case of pot and kettle - I would say.
