Waste of Public Money
A row has broken out over the refusal of the House of Commons to publish the 'Golden Goodbyes' paid to 220 MPs - who left the Westminster Parliament after the May 2010 election.
The money is worth up to a year's salary (£64,766) - with the first £30,000 tax free.
The idea is that MPs need a financial cushion to help them find their way back into a 'normal' life - once their political careers are over.
Quite why they need all this public money is a mystery though - since many of them go straight into other well paid jobs - or just retire on a generously funded pension.
The total cost to the public purse is said to be over £10 million.
What a waste of money.
