£9.00 an hour
I read and heard some of what the Scottish Socialist Party had to say yesterday - in launching its manifesto for the Holyrood elections.
Two things jumped out at me.
First - the party backs a £9.00 an hour minimum wage.
But of course this would have been delivered years ago - for many workers in Scottish councils - if the employers had simply kept their promises over equal pay and the 1999 Single Status Agreement
Because traditional male council jobs - such as refuse workers and gardeners - have been earning £9.00 an hour for the best part of ten years.
It's the women's jobs that have been losing out - thousands of carers, cooks, cleaners and classroom assistants.
Second - there was no proposal to nationalise the banks.
Presumably because the last Labour government beat them to it and - let's face it - to be out-lefted by Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling must leave a bitter taste.
And of course we are all now living in a Socialist Paradise - enjoying the 'benefits' of these capitalist running dogs being under state control.
