Pot and Kettle (2)

Politics is a dirty business -  and some of those who do it for a living have no compunction about saying one thing - then doing another.

Take the leading Labour MP - Harriet Harman - only the other day she was giving Nick Clegg pelters for using family connections to get a job - albeit in his past.

See post dated 6 April 2011: 'Pot and Kettle'

Yet today it emerges that Harriet's been up to exactly the same thing - her eldest son's first job was apparently at a public relations firm owned by one of Harriet's friends.

Now you could say that's just life - or you could try and do something about it by insisting that jobs are properly advertised - and filled on the basis of what you know not who you know.

But what you can't do is what Harriet has done - which is to slag other people off when you're guilty of the exact same thing - at least without being called a hypocrite.

The Mail on Sunday reports today that Harry Dromey - Harriet's eldest son - had just graduated with a degree in politics from Bristol University.

Yet he went straight into a job with a PR consultancy founded by key Labour Party adviser - Deborah Mattinson - a friend of his mother.

Previously Harry had volunteered at her market research company - Opinion Leader Research - which has won contracts worth almost £3 million across an array of Government departments and agencies.

So there you are - and you heard it here first.
