Success in Sheffield
Low paid council workers in Sheffield have just won an epic battle for equal pay - after a long hard fight.
Hundreds of school meals workers - along with carers and cleaners - have won settlements with Sheffield City Council - after a long fight in the Employment Tribunals.
The cost to the council will run to millions of pounds of course.
But this simply reflects the money that low paid women workers - were cheated out of for many years.
The settlement in Sheffield follows the same pattern as everywhere else - north and south of the border.
The council employer and the trade unions knew fine well - that many women's jobs had been undervalued and underpaid for years.
But instead of ending this blatant pay discrimination - which the employers and trade unions had previously agreed to do - they just turned a blind eye and allowed the situation to continue.
Which meant that many traditional male jobs - were being paid thousands of pounds a year more than their female colleagues.
The council dragged things out for over five years - before finally admitting defeat.
