Actions Speak Louder

Apparently three men - alleged 'football fans' - were arrested over alleged sectarian behaviour at East End Park - during Saturday's match between Dunfermline and Rangers.

Now I have no idea who these people are, what they are alleged to have said or done - or which team they support - as if that makes a difference to anything.

But what seems to be happening is that the police - are backing up the anti-sectarian rhetoric with firm action on the ground.

By arresting people for the kind of behaviour - that would find them being 'lifted' if they behaved the same way in the street.

Dunfermline Athletic has also banned the men from the football ground pending the outcome of any court case - and has promised to "name and shame" on its website - anyone convicted of an offence.

Good - and if anyone is convicted the club should ban them from entering the ground for a season or two - as a way of reinforcing their message.

Letting off a bit of steam at a football match is one thing.

Shouting hate-filled abuse is quite another - and stamping down on it will have the support of the vast majority of fans - and the wider public.
