Four Time Loser

So justice has been served - in the end.

The drunken football hooligan who attacked Celtic manager - Neil Lennon - at Tynecastle stadium in May - has been given an eight month prison sentence and a five-year football banning order.

John Wilson (26) had three previous convictions for breach of the peace - which were not known to the jury in his recent trial at Edinburgh Sherrif Court.

But this serial loser has now added a custodial sentence to his criminal record - and the judge gave him what he deserved in passing sentence earlier today.

Sheriff Fiona Reith told Wilson:

"The crime of which you have been convicted by the jury was a serious one.

A breach of the peace can sometimes be a quite minor crime but sometimes it is not.

In this case it was not minor at all, it was serious, and with serious potential consequences in the context of what was already a highly volatile atmosphere in the crowd of over 16,000 football supporters."

Let's hope Mr Wilson has learned his lesson - because if he ends up back in court again - on another serious charge - he faces the prospect of going to jail for a very long time.
