Footballing Farce
Glasgow Celtic fly off to Spain today for a match against Athletico Madrid in the group stages of the Europa Cup - but apparently their opponents from the last round - Sion of Switzerland - will be there too!
Celtic are lucky to be through to the group stages of course - because Sion actually beat the Glasgow team on the football pitch - only to be thrown out of the competition by UEFA for fielding ineligible players.
The issue was decided in Celtic's favour last week - and an appeal by the Swiss club rejected by UEFA yesterday - but still the farce continues.
Apparently Sion intend to pursue a further appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport - which is not part of the UEFA appeals process.
But if this can't be heard before the match with Athletico Madrid gets underway - what's the point?
The clock can't be turned back - because that would presumably involve the Spanish club being forced to play an extra game or games - against a new opponent.
Maybe there'll be a bust up in Madrid - with Celtic and Sion 'fighting' over who gets the away team's dressing room.
