Leaving of Liverpool
As the Labour party gathers in Liverpool today for its annual conference - one of its most talented MPs is not hanging for too long - David Miliband.
The older Miliband brother - pipped at the post by Ed the younger - is in town for only a few hours apparently.
David Miliband is scheduled to speak a some fringe event - before jetting off to America where he is attending an international conference on foreign affairs.
It's a funny old world being an MP - I have to say.
In many ways our Westminster parliamentarians are a law unto themselves - able to swan around the world while still being paid for their day job - out of the public purse.
Lots of them are at it - MPs of all parties it has to be said - who get away with murder because MPs don't have a real 'boss' - other than the electorate every four or five years.
And as MPs make up their own rules - about what they can and cannot do - both in and out of the House of Commons - they're largely free to do what they want.
Which is what many of them do - and why they have such poor attendance records.
