Ozzy for Leader

Dr Ozzy Osborne was back on good form this week.

In his 'Ask Dr Ozzy' column in The Sunday Times - which comes with a much needed health warning - Dr Ozzy gives some valuable advice - this time on on food hygiene.

Q I often eat food after I've dropped it on the floor. Is this a bad idea, or does exposure to germs help keep your immune system, in good nick?

Mack, Sussex.

A Depends. How many times did the dog lick the food? Was it a stray french fry or a £30 cut of steak. And, most important, did anyone see you pick it up? A lot of people have the five-second rule, but I'm more worried about the state of the floor. Then again, when an apple falls off the tree, it doesn't land in a plastic wrapper, does it? Yes, our immune system needs to be exposed to bacteria to learn how to fight 'em, but you don't want to spend half your life puking your guts out 'cos you think it makes you tougher.

Dr Ozzy

So there you have it - a thoughtful detailed answer that can be read in several different ways - and therefore mean all things to all people.

I think Dr Ozzy has the makings of a first class politician.

Maybe I'll drop him a note to see if he's interested - in becoming leader of the Scottish Labour party.

Now that would get people's attention.
