South Lanarkshire Council
A number of readers from South Lanarkshire have been in touch - about the Scottish election campaign.
Apparently they've been telling Scottish Labour MSPs in no uncertain terms - that lots of voters refused to support the Labour party - because of South Lanarkshire Council's behaviour over equal pay.
South Lanarkshire Council is - as regular readers will know - a Labour-led council.
And up until now Labour MSPs have been reluctant to get involved - and have failed to criticise the local Labour leadership of the council.
Presumably this has been seen by many voters - as local Labour MSPs failing to stand up for their constituents.
Because the party has paid a heavy price at the Scottish elections - with no less than three constituency Labour MSPs losing their seats - Tom McCabe (a former leader of South Lanarkshire Council), Andy Kerr and Karen Gillon.
So the heat is now on the Labour-led council which faces a local election next year.
Do Labour leaders continue to stick their heads in the sand - or do they face up to their behaviour on equal pay?
Readers who want to help turn up the heat - can do so by contacting their local MSPs - and I will be publishing their contact details in the days ahead.
But don't take any old baloney from MSPs - particularly Labour MSPs - who might say that the council can't afford to meet its obligations on equal pay.
South Lanarkshire Council's budget doubled in the ten years up to 1997 - they've not been starved of funds - quite the opposite.
So it's high time the Labour leaders of the council faced up to the truth - and faced up to their responsibilities on equal pay.
