Phone Hacking Scandal

I read the other day that 452 people have now jumped on to the phone hacking bandwagon - and are trying to sue News International - the parent company of the now defunct News of the World.

Now I have no problem with ordinary folks going after their pound flesh - people whose privacy has been invaded for no good reason by unscrupulous journalists.

But what I do object to are these celebrity-types and failed politicians - arguing that they have suffered real damage by someone hacking into their phone messages.

Take the preposterous John Prescott, for example - he made a fool of his wife and the taxpayer by conducting a lengthy affair with a female civil servant - 25 years his junior.

Yet instead of being sacked in disgrace from his job - which would have happened in most other walks of life - the old sea-dog was allowed to remain as deputy Prime Minister.

Two Jags Prescott is now retired on a generous public pension - based on his deputy PM salary.

Not only that - John Prescott has reappeared in the House of Lords - where he can claim £30,000 or so in tax free attendance allowances - yet still he wants more.

The family of Milly Dowler have been compensated by News International - and Rupert Murdoch personally - for the gross invasion of their privacy.

And rightly so.

As for the rest of the 452 - I'm not so sure - seems to me some of them are just trying it on.
