Did you know that there is a public body - a quango - that advises the government on the potential toxicity and effects upon public health - of air pollutants?
I didn't until the other day - and it sounds like a jolly good thing too.
Since nobody wants to be poisoned by breathing in toxic air - as they go about making their daily bread - or even just rioting in the streets - as some folks like to do these days.
But what surprised me is that someone actually gets paid real dosh for chairing this government advisory committeee - almost £200 a day plus their travel and subsistence costs.
Not a king's ransom I know - but what a waste of public money.
Surely out of all the scientists and boffins that the government employs - they can find one to do this work as part of his/her normal day job.
Sounds like a pain free cut to me.
