Private Eye - An Apology

Recent editions of Private Eye have been full of spoof apologies - with people in high places saying sorry for things - that they did or did not do.

My personal favourite is the one written in the name of the Guardian newspaper.

The context being the Guardian's front-page attack on The Sun newspaper on behalf of the former Labour Prime Minister - Gordon Brown - which made false claims that the Guardian subsequently withdrew.

Anyway here is the Eye's take on calling a spade - a highly intricate gardening implement:

                         An Apology to Gordon Brown

"In a front-page article earlier this week we published allegations made by Gordon Brown in which he claimed he was Prime Minister between 2007 and 2010.

We have subsequently made every effort to substantiate these claims, but were unable to find any proof that Gordon Brown ever led the country. We now accept that he was far too busy to be Prime Minister due to his onerous schedule attending Mr Murdoch's parties, going to Rebekah Brooks' wedding, organising sleepovers for Wendi Deng in Chequers, etc, etc.

We are very sorry for any confusion or distress this may have caused."
