A Brave Mother
The mother who turned her own daughter to the police - after seeing her on TV taking part in the London street riots - made a very brave and difficult decision.
Chelsea Ives (18) was not poor - or dispossessed.
In fact she is something of a role model - as a young athlete who has been selected to serve as a 'volunteer ambassador' for London - in the 2012 Olympic Games.
Yet this didn't stop Chelsea from taking part in the scenes of rioting and looting in the surburbs of London - and for allegedly smashing shops windows and violently attacking a police car.
Chelsea's mum - Adrienne Ives - took the painful decision after recognising her daughter - during the violent scenes which were shown on television.
I really hope the mother's decision pays off - she did the right thing by her daughter - and hopefully young Chelsea will learn a valuable lesson that will stay with her for the rest of her life.
Adrienne Ives probably doesn't want any recognition for what she's done - because she will have only been thinking about what's best for her daughter in the long-run.
But she's exactly the sort of person who should be influencing public policy - I'd rather have Adrienne Ives helping to run the country - in somewhere like the House of Lords, for example.
Instead of all these retired politicians - who couldn't hold a candle to her - when it comes to integrity, common sense and doing the right thing.
