So it seems that not all footballing superstars are venal and greedy - after all.
With the news that Cesc Fabregas today completed his long awaited transfer to Barcelona - in a deal worth up to £35 million.
In fact the former Arsenal captain has taken a cut in his wages - of £4.4 million over the five years of his new contract with the Catalonian giants.
Or to put it another way - Fabregas would have been £4.4 million better off - if he had just stayed put in London - riots and all.
So the young man got what he wanted - a return to his home city and the club where he started his career - but he had to make a few sacrifices of his own - which is good to see.
He even seems to have left on good terms with his former Arsenal team mates and the club's manager - Arsene Wenger.
Wonders will never cease - now all we need is for Arsenal and Barcelona to be drawn together in the later rounds of the Champions League.
Stranger things have happened, you know.
