Guga Hunt

A Scottish MP has apparently taking part in a 'cull' of seabird chicks - and caused an outcry among animal lovers - according the Scotsman newspaper.

My interest was immediately aroused at this report - in the hope that the MP was from Glasgow - and that one of Scotland's finest had at last seen the light by deciding to stand up to the city's seagull menace.

So I was somewhat disappointed to read that the MP in question is Angus MacNeil - SNP MP for the Western Isles - who is travelling to the island of Sulasgeir for the traditional 'harvest' of gugas - or young gannets.

While animal lovers are up in arms - Angus MacNeil and his fellow 'guga hunters' said the tradition had been followed for generations - and probably stemmed from the Viking era.

Well what's good enough for the Vikings is good enough for me - an annual cull seems a great idea.

And to keep the animal lovers on side - all we need to do is to remove seagull eggs from their rooftop nesting sites - and replace them humanely with false eggs.

Because as I've explained before - these stupid creatures are too dumb to know the difference.

Result - happiness all round - and not a Viking in sight.
