Cinema as Art

I caught a bit of "Witness' the other night - a great film from 1985 which tells the talk of a tough, hard-bitten city cop, played by Harrison Ford, who hides out amongst the Amish community while of the run from corrupt colleagues in his own police force.

But one of the best scenes in the movie has nothing to do with cops and killers, but the raising of a barn in a single day as the Amish community comes together to help a young couple starting out their married life.

The scene is brought to life with a beautiful score written by Maurice Jarre which I think is played on a church organ and there are few Holywood blockbusters that can say that nowadays.

The barn scene has a timeless, lyrical quality although this YouTube version could without the banal commentary and voice over since the points being made are perfectly obvious to everyone bar the village idiot.
