Turning Up the Heat
Former Labour minister - John Hutton - has turned up the heat on the new party leader by calling on Ed Miliband to support the government's pension reform plans.
Lord Hutton also says that unions should stop threatening strikes - and that people need to 'face reality' - because strikes will not make the necessity of pension reform 'go away'.
When asked if Ed Miliband - the new Labour leader - should oppose the threat of industrial action by the same unions that backed him to become party leader - Hutton said:
"Of course"
Before adding - that he would like to see Ed Miliband endorse his report.
Seems to me that Labour and Ed Miliband are now between a rock and a hard place.
Because I'm sure that intellectually they agree with John Hutton - who was a very able and widely respected Labour minister.
Yet the unions are party's paymasters - with Unison donating £423,000 of its members' money to Labour - in the past year alone.
So which way will the new Labour leaders jump?
