Protecting the Low Paid
A regular reader from Clackmannanshire says that the local council is also trying to reduce the working year - for some of the lowest paid groups of staff.
Many councils have already introduced 'term-time' contracts for lots of non-teaching staff - which means that they don't get paid during the school holidays.
Unlike teachers - of course - who do get paid for 52 weeks of the year.
So how can it be fair to turn the screw even tighter on the lowest paid - when the better off are not affected?
As the reader from Clacks says - 'the poorest paid get poorer, but the greed at the top gets greater'.
Politicans and trade unions say they aim is to protect low paid, front-line workers - during these tough economic times.
But somehow - it doesn't always feel that way.
