Concacaf Kicks Ass

Concacaf is the footballing authority for North and Central America and the Caribbean - and is at the centre of the storm over bribery and corruption allegations surrounding FIFA.

Concacaf's general secretary - an American named Chuck Blazer - is the whistleblower whose allegations led to the suspension of Jack Warner - an ally of Sepp Blatter and President of Concacaf.

During the recent FIFA congress in Zurich - the acting Concacaf President (Lisle Austin) -  appointed by Sepp Blatter - tried to sack Chuck Blazer without an investigation or hearing.

Lisle Austin is apparently another well-known Blatter supporter.

But this 'dismissal' was later described as "unauthorised" in a statement on the Concacaf website which said:

"Jurisdiction over the general secretary rests solely with the Concacaf executive committee which has taken no action.

Further, a majority of the executive committee members have advised Mr Austin that he does not have the authority to take such action.

Chuck Blazer continues as general secretary and with the full authority of his office."

What a sorry mess.

The attempted sacking of a whistleblower - without a hearing - and before any allegations have been investigated - tells you all you need to know about FIFA.

I think I'll stop drinking Coca Cola - in protest.
