Rogue State
I hope the international community is looking at the present Iranian regime with an even more sceptical eye today - after the botched terror attack in Bangkok.
The bomber managed to blow his own legs off - in the process of trying to kill other people - but was also captured with an Iranian passport and Iranian currency on his person.
So if this is the level of sophistication to be expected of Iranian spies - with a licence to kill from their government - then goodness only knows what is happening with Iran's nuclear programme.
As I write it's probably rattling, leaking and whistling in the most alarming fashion - ready to blow up in the Iranian desert somewhere - contaminating large parts of the middle east.
The attack in Thailand comes hot on the heels of two other terrorist outrages - one on an Israeli diplomatic vehicle in Delhi - and another on the Israeli embassy in Tbilisi where a bomb was defused.
The intended target in Bangkok was less clear - with eye witnesses reporting that one attacker threw a grenade at a taxi - injuring the driver and three bystanders - before running away chased by police.
After being cornered the Iranian terrorist tried to throw another bomb at the police - but managed to drop the explosive instead - and as a consequence blew off his own legs.
Just last week the spiritual leader of Iran - Ayotollah Ali Khamenei - declared that the Israeli state is a cancer in the world - which needs to be removed.
Now I have my own strongly held views about some of the actions of the Israeli state - including its occupation and continued expansion into Palestinian territories.
But recent events inside and outside Iran seem to confirm - that the international community is dealing with a dangerous, out of control rogue state.
The question is - does the international community and the United Nations have the political will to deal with the situation?
So far the answer would appear to be no - especially if events in Syria are anything to go by.
