Rip Off Britain
The BBC is engulfed in another row over its generous use of public money - to pay film star salaries to male TV presenters.
Yesterday the Sunday Times highlighted the fact that female presenters of some of the Beeb's most popular shows - are being paid up to 40 times less than their male counterparts on Match of the Day.
Apparently the female presenters of Rip Off Britain - Angela Rippon, Gloria Hunniford and Julia Somerville earn just £1,000 per episode.
Even though their programme regularly attracts 5 million viewers - knocking Match of the Day's 4.5 million into a cocked hat.
Yet the male presenters on MOTD - Gary Linker, Alan Hansen and Alan Shearer - are treated like TV royalty and enjoy film star salaries of up to £2 milion a year.
Gary Lineker - £2 million
Alan Hansen - £1.5 million
Alan Shearer - £400,000
Now quite who negotiates these generous appearance fees is not clear, but it can't be a hard job - especially if you're negotiating with other people's money.
The TV licence payers' money that is - and for what amounts to a few hours work as opposed to a real job.
So it just goes to show that it's not just the bankers and their bonuses that rip off Britain - the top brass at BBC are doing a fine job of it as well.
