A Fair Cop

Just the other day one of Britain's most controversial police officers - Ali Dizaei - was sent to jail for three years - after being convicted of corruption for a second time.

Predictably, Ali Dizaei's lawyers immediately announced - that he will be lodging an appeal.

What else would you expect from a former police commander who has led police  authorities on a merry dance for the past ten years - during which time he played his 'ethnic minority' status very effectively?

But this time it appears to be a fair cop.

And although Mr Dizaei is likely be be freed within a few months because of the time he has spent on remand - the former police commander is likely to forgo his police pension.

A small but welcome consolation to the public purse - which has served Ali Dizaei extremely well for many years even during his second trial.

Police regulations mean that this now convicted corrupt copper has been suspended on full pay of £90,000 a year - presumably since the original trial in 2010.

Now you would think that the authorities would change these police rules and regulations - so that money can be clawed back in the event of a successful prosecution.

Disciplinary proceedings will only now be commenced against former commander Dizaei.

For obvious reasons - this will almost certainly result in his dismissal from the Metropolitan Police Force - a decision that will inevitably be appealed as well, no doubt.
