Papering Over Cracks
A regular reader from North Lanarkshire has been in touch to say that she has been in touch with the Council Leader - Councillor Jim McCabe.
Apparently, he's not a happy chappy - at tall these pesky people asking awkward questions - and refusing to be fobbed off over equal pay.
And do you know what? - that's a really good thing - it shows that the council is badly rattled and that it doesn't have a proper answer to the points that people are raising.
There is absolutely no truth in the council's argument that its hands are tied - that North Lanarkshire is not free to do exactly the same as other councils - such as Edinburgh.
Just ask yourself - 'How could things be so different just a few miles along the M8?'
The reality is that North Lanarkshire's argument is a whole load of baloney from beginning to end - the council is now running scared because people are refusing to be treated like fools - with the May elections just round the corner.
Some people in North Lanarkshire have already been in touch with their MSPs - some of whom have a very different take on things from the present council leadership.
So take heart and keep up the good work - because North Lanarkshire is finding it impossible to paper over the cracks in its position - which are getting wider by the day.
"Dear Mark,
I recently contacted Councillor Jim McCabe about equal pay settlements in North Lanarkshire.
I politely asked why the council were still dragging their heels after all this time and said that the hardworking employees that keep the council going have been waiting eagerly and patiently all this time, but are now getting more and more frustrated about being fobbed off.
I also stated that in the upcoming elections I would seriously be considering why on earth I would be voting for councillors who have in no way supported us and whoever else I voted for could surely make no more mess of things than those currently in power.
I did receive a reply a few days later which I was certainly not happy about!!!
Let's just say he's definitely not happy about getting all these e-mails from angry North Lanarkshire Council workers. As far as he's concerned all the matters to do with equal pay are out of the councils hands.
But if they had paid us our worth from the start we would not be in this position, so what is this man talking about?
Yours sincerely
S"
