Council Meetings
The recent court decision to outlaw the saying of prayers as part of official council meetings - has produced a quite hysterical reaction - from the God brigade.
Various newspapers reported yesterday that senior members of the Church of England acted with barely disguised fury at the judgement - branding the verdict a 'silencing' of the Christian voice in Britain.
Even the former Archbishop of Canterbury - Lord Carey - got in on the act with the foolish claim that events were contributing to 'marginalisation of Christianity'.
Lord Carey went on to say:
“I am horrified by this. It does look as though the Christian voice is being silenced and I am very worried by the dangers of a creeping secularism."
What a load of old tosh.
All that's happened is that people have been told it's fine to say your prayers.
But do so privately - in your own time - and don't force other people to attend your prayer sessions - as if these are part of the council's official business.
After all - what has the saying of prayers got to do with emptying the bins?
Nothing of course - and that's the way it should be to any right thinking person.
