Bad Sport

In a Manchester United v Liverpool football match - I would normally give my full support to our neighbours from Scouseland.

For no reason other than I think there is natural affinity between Glaswegians and Liverpudlians - which possibly comes from a shared sense of humour - often gallows humour.

But I was glad that Manchester United won the derby yesterday - because Liverpool continue to make fools of themselves - over this Luis Suarez business.

The latest display of bad behaviour and poor sportsmanship - came at the start of the game at
Old Trafford.

For reasons known only to himself Luis Suarez refused to shake the hand of Patrice Evra - the Manchester player who complained of being racially abused by Suarez - when the two sides last met.

The Liverpool player has been encouraged to see himself as a victim in this affair - because of the comments of his club manager - Kenny Dalglish - who continues to insist that his player was treated unfairly.

But that flies in the face of all the evidence and an independent report which resulted in Suarez being banned for eight games - a decision which Liverpool significantly failed to challenge by submitting an appeal.

So there is nothing but bad blood to be gained from continuing with this ridiculous one-sided feud - not least because Suarez is definitely more villain than victim.

The club and the player should both grow up - and learn to be better sports.
