Glasgow - Miles Wetter vs Golden Brown

The weather in Glasgow has been miserable and wet these past few days, but on Thursday morning the city was bathed in golden sunshine which reminded me of this track from The Stranglers - 'Golden Brown'.

As Glasgow heads into another three week lockdown all I can say is "Thank God" that our politicians had the wisdom and foresight to insist that up to six Glaswegians can still meet outdoors between now and Friday 11 December 2020.

 


Good News, Glasgow! (17/11/20)


So Scottish Ministers are planning to place Glasgow into even more severe lockdown restrictions today.


But the good news is that the new 'improved' Level 4 measures are not as bad as the lockdown restrictions first imposed back in March 2020.


For example, up to six people can still meet outdoors and there are no restrictions on Glaswegians enjoying outdoor exercise - in November/December 2020.

  


Tiers, Plans and Covid Lockdowns (27/10/20)






















Today's the big day when we get to hear more details about Scotland's new tiers or levels of Covid restrictions which for some strange reason are numbered zero to four instead of one to five. 

I may watch the event 'live' on TV as I'm very interested in what the Scottish Government has to say - while we're not back exactly where we started in March, I think it is fair to say the politicians have lost control since their disastrous decision to allow students to return to universities and their halls of residence.

In which case what are the politicians planning to do other than locking us all down again for weeks on end - surely they don't believe that an endless series of Groundhog Day 'lockdowns' is the way to defeat Covid-19?

So if I were the Scottish Minister, instead of cancelling Christmas or Halloween, I'd be asking myself why so many people (albeit a minority) are ignoring the Government's message on public safety. 

Then I would set about finding new, different and more effective ways of persuading people about the importance of social distancing, wearing face coverings and remaining cautious at all times.

SNP - Conspiracy of Silence

So here's the issue - two Glasgow MSPs (Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf) have been asked a reasonable question about their use of public money to employ two SNP councillors who already have full-time, salaried jobs as senior elected members of Glasgow City Council.   But these two public servants (both long-serving ministers) refuse to answer, so what to do next? One regular reader suggests raising the matter on the floor of the Scottish Parliament which is a good idea, but requires an MSP who's prepared to put down a written question for Scottish Ministers to answer.
