Linzi Page can go abroad, but she fears the travel ban means she can't go to Edinburgh airporthttps://t.co/RIxP2LJTZi
The Daily Record reports that a dying mum, Linzi Page, had to beg to be allowed to travel with her family on a final holiday to Tenerife.
I have to say I find it very distasteful that the First Minister, or any other politician, should be sitting in judgment of people and their families in this way.
Because there are all kinds of reasons people wish to travel abroad and they shouldn't have to plead with politicians for an exceptional pass to go about their personal business.
After all a whole range of exceptions to the current travel ban already exist including:
- travel for work
- travel for seeking employment
- travel to provide voluntary services
- travel to school or boarding school
- travel to college or university
- travel for under-18s organised sport
- travel for childcare
- travel for waste or recycling
- travel for asylum and immigration interviews
- travel to facilitate shared parenting
- travel for outdoor exercise
- travel to attend a marriage or civil partnership ceremony
- travel for worship
- travel to move home
- travel for those involved in professional sport
- travel to vote in an election
- travel for a prison visit
So why is it the business of the politicians if Linzi Page, or anyone else, wishes to travel abroad either on their own or with family and friends?
If you ask me, as long as they are cautious during their journey and observe any quarantine regulations that are in place when they return - it's not for government to rule over people's in this way.
