Hansel and Gretel

I was at the pantomime last weekend for a performance of Hansel and Gretel  - a hugely enjoyable experience - despite the fact that we had no children in tow.

The event took place in the theatre hall of The Bridge in Easterhouse - an impressive community-based facility which is home to a whole number of things - including the Greater East Arts Company (GEAC) - and the John Wheatley College. 

'Platform' is the vehicle used by GEAC to deliver the pantomime and other events throughout the year - the next big thing on the horizon being the Celtic Connections Festival in the New Year.

And how refreshing it is to be able to enjoy a great show outside of the normal locations in the city centre - there is a great feel to the venue which has proved to be a palpable hit with local people.

Platform's interpretation of Hansel and Gretel was the opposite of a big production number - played with great imagination and enthusiasm by only three people - yet full of contemporary Scottish references - and a lively musical score.
