Russian Gas At Peep

I loved this photo of Angela Merkel and Vladimir Putin - if I could put a 'strap line' on  the image it would say 'Russian Gas At Peep' which is a Scottish phrase for saying that someone has been put in their place - down a notch or two.

I think it's great to see a woman politician on the world stage holding her own and more with the likes of the Russian President - 'macho man' Vladimir Putin. 

Apparently the German Chancellor - Angela Merkel - who is on a state visit to Russia gave Vladimir a hard time over the return of bronze age artefacts looted from Germany at the end of the Second World War.

On a previous visit to Germany Chancellor Merkel upbraided the Russian President over his country's stance on human including its increasingly ugly attitude towards gay relationships - with the German Foreign Minister - Guido Westerwelle - who is gay protesting about a new Russian law against homosexual “propaganda”.

Good for Angela and Guido, I say - because President Putin is used to throwing his weight around and it's good to see other politicians standing up to him - and calling a spade a spade.
