Guardian Cartoon

Martin Rowson 22.06.2013
The following 'comment' cartoon appeared in The Guardian newspaper on Saturday, but rather make me laugh or think my reaction instead was - how pathetic!

Because it appears to show a dead body representing the NHS which has been murdered - with a 'fat cat' and the Government's health secretary - Jeremy Hunt - exiting the morgue in a suspicious fashion, as if they are something to do with the tragedy or 'crime'.

But if the story of Mid Staffs and Morecombe Bay teach us anything it's that the recent scandals in the NHS were not caused by a lack of funds or resources.

The problems were caused by supposedly professional people not doing their jobs properly - by denying basic care to NHS customers (patients) and their families.

And when these failing were exposed instead of alerting the public to what was really  going - people who should have known much better either sat on their hands or in some cases actively covered things up.

So to suggest that the present Coalition Government is responsible for the poor standards of care and all the unnecessary deaths that have occurred - is patently absurd.

If this is what passes for intelligent comment in The Guardian these days - then no wonder I don't buy that particular newspaper very often.
