A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Stand

As we are about to leave the house yesterday to see Bee Babylon at the Edinburgh Fringe my wife called out:

"Loki (aka Darren McGarvey) has just tweeted about problems getting into Queen Street station because of all the cyclists."

Darren McGarvey: 'Austerity was class war. I want to hit back' - The Big Issue

So thanks to this Twitter early warning we decided get the subway into town instead of walking.

A couple of hours later we were at the Stand (4) venue and who should walk in the door but Darren McGarvey who had made the journey to Edinburgh to see Bee Bablyon as well.

Bee (Bylgja) is Icelandic and her show is a hilarious, no-holds-barred take on something most people avoid talking about - cancer.

Hair loss, hair growth (in unexpected places), dealing with doctors, sharing a joke with fellow patients (How's your cervix, you nerd?") are all grist to Bee's humour mill and the end result is not just funny, but life-affirming as well.

Highly recommended - Bee is on at The Stand Comedy Club 4 at 17.25 every evening during the Edinburgh Fringe.

Darren McGarvey has his own show at the Fringe, by the way - Venue 7 (The Stand's New town Theatre) at 19.30 from August 13 to 19.
