Education, Attainment and Blowing Smoke
Instead of blowing smoke up Nicola Sturgeon's ass at the Edinburgh Fringe Ian Dale at LBC ought to have been asking the FM about her now abandoned promise to close Scotland's educational attainment gap.
Be Careful What You Wish For! (August 10, 2022)
Nicola Sturgeon promised to close Scotland's attainment gap and famously demanded to be judged on her education record back in 2015.
Fast forward to 2022 - Scotland's attainment gap has widened and the First Minister has abandoned her famous pledge.
Judge Not, Lest Ye Be Judged! (May 20, 2022)
"Let me be clear", said Nicola Sturgeon back in 2015, "I want to be judged on this."
Yet in 2022 literacy and numeracy rates are still falling and the rot set in in 2019 - so Covid is no excuse.
Meanwhile the Scottish Government abandons its pledge to close the education and SNP backbenchers say nothing because they are all 'wheeshtingforindy'.
Astonishing behaviour from a parliament and government which is letting young people down.
"Let me be clear - I want to be judged on this. If you are not, as First Minister, prepared to put your neck on the line on the education of our young people then what are you prepared to do. It really matters."
The motion passed also said there were "key weaknesses in some key aspects of Scotland's school education" system.
