The People's Priorities vs SNP Priorities

Scotland's ministers have shown zero leadership over the issue of assisted dying despite the fact that all the opinion polls confirm this is the 'settled will' of the Scottish people.

Why is that - why do politicians like Humza Yousaf hide behind bogus arguments about 'stringent safeguards' instead of working positively to put these safeguards in place?

For example, by ensuring there are effective medical checks and balances put in place, as well as a role for next of kin or close family members.

Humza bangs on about independence 24/7, along with other Scottish ministers, but there is far greater public support for an assisted dying scheme on a cross party basis.

Yet again the issue is being left to a backbench MSP, the Lib Dem Liam McArthur, when the Scottish Government should be taking the lead - no wonder people are increasingly fed up with the SNP.

The People's Priorities vs SNP Priorities (December 09, 2021)

The Daily Record reports that Scotland's hopeless health minister, Humza Yousaf, won't back a new law on assisted dying even though measure commands far more public support than there is for independence.

Whatever happened to the people's priorities?

Humza doesn't go into detail about his reasons beyond referring to an unspecified lack of 'stringent safeguards' although as an MSP he's in the perfect position to put forward proposals to strengthen any perceived gaps in Liam McArthur's bill.

Truth is the lack of leadership from the SNP is shocking and I, for one, certainly object to politicians with strong religious views, like Humza Yousaf, trying to impose their values on others who don't share their beliefs on assisted dying.
