Glasgow City Council Leader - Never Writes, Never Calls!

Glasgow's foremost equal pay campaigner, Frances Stojilkovic, gave the SNP council leader (Cllr Susan Aitken) a piece of her mind over the city's long-running dispute.

I think it's fair to say that when Cllr Aitken was in opposition she was always keen to meet the city's equal pay claimants, but since winning control of the council it's a very different story - 'she never writes, she never calls'.

Nevertheless Glasgow's fight for equal pay will continue and it looks as if things will heat up significantly with more strikes looming in the New Year!

Glasgow Equal Pay Update and the Council Leader

I took part on a joint trade union 'online meeting' with Susan Aitken the Leader of Glasgow City Council back in October.
One of the points I asked was if and when Cllr Aitken could come and meet with us in the Dixon Halls, as she's done before when she was the SNP Opposition Leader in the Council.
Susan agreed to a meeting at the time (during the meeting), but since then she's just blanked me and hasn't even had the courtesy to respond to emails requesting a date so I could book the Dixon Halls.
Here's the latest email I sent to Cllr Aitken which has gone unanswered

Subject: Equal Pay

Hi Susan have you any dates for a meeting with us claimants yet as you said you would look into November dates to see how your diary was ?
As you're the leader of our council it would be good to hear from yourself to let us know exactly what is going on
We feel so let down by yourself as you did promise in your manifesto to get our equal pay sorted and we're all these years on and having to come out on strike once again.
Thanks
Frances Stojilkovic

As you can tell I am really annoyed at the lack of courtesy and respect not just to me but to all the equal pay claimants across Glasgow.
Cllr Aitken was quick to accept out invitations to discuss equal pay when she was the SNP Opposition Leader but has changed her tune since becoming the Leader of the Council.
Feel free to drop Susan Aitken a note at the following email address and and tell Cllr Aitken what you think of her behaviour - Susan.Aitken@glasgow.gov.uk
I suspect the only way the Council is going to take is seriously is to strike again in the New Year and that's the plan the GMB and other unions are working to now.
So stay safe, have a great Christmas and I'll be in touch again in 2022!

Frances
