First Rule of Fight Club - 'Indy First'

So it seems the first rule of fight club for the SNP is - 'Indy First' - nothing else matters except protecting the project.

So if the fight is with someone from the outside, the truth doesn't matter and any doubts must be swept aside.

Hence the reason Nicola Sturgeon leapt to Alex Salmond's defence back in 2015 with her heartfelt insistence that the SNP champion 'had not got a sexist bone in his body'.

Fast forward a few years and Alex Salmond is portrayed as a powerful man using 'his status and connections to get what wants'.

I don't support either of the two bruisers in this ugly, unedifying battle - they both owe Scotland a big apology if you ask me, albeit for different reasons.

For some it's all about news management, protecting the leadership and Indy First, yet the SNP as the party of government is solely responsible for this hugely costly farce which has damaged the reputation of the Scottish Parliament and undermined its democratic institutions.

Perhaps most worrying of all is that without the prospect of Nicola's Number 2 (John Swinney) losing his job through a vote of no confidence the public would never have seen the Scottish Government's legal advice - or the scale of its shameful incompetence.
