Fair Pay and Scottish Ministers


Scotland's social care workers have been in the front line in the battle against Covid looking after vulnerable people in their own homes or residential care homes.

So why are ministers refusing them the same 4% pay rise as their NHS colleagues?

I had to correct this opinion piece in The Herald because all staff in Scotland's social care sector were entitled to a £500 Covid bonus including those working in independent and voluntary care homes. 

So where there's a will there's always way unless this is just another election stunt of course.

Will Scottish Ministers stump up up the cash to ensure Scotland's home carers get a 4% pay rise this year? 

Because Scotland's home carers have been on the front in the battle against Covid-19 and deserve no less than their colleagues in the NHS.

So here's the issue - two Glasgow MSPs (Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf) have been asked a reasonable question about their use of public money to employ two SNP councillors who already have full-time, salaried jobs as senior elected members of Glasgow City Council.   But these two public servants (both long-serving ministers) refuse to answer, so what to do next? One regular reader suggests raising the matter on the floor of the Scottish Parliament which is a good idea, but requires an MSP who's prepared to put down a written question for Scottish Ministers to answer.
