The Fight for Equal Pay in Glasgow
All the nonsense talk about the 'Council Family' in Glasgow City Council made me think about this great song by Robert Earl Keen.
Now I don't know who coined the phrase 'Council Family' in referring to the council's workforce, but it seems a bit mad because it conjures up for me an image of peace and harmony, sweetness and light.
Whereas the fight for equal pay in Glasgow over the past 11 years has been a dirty, bare knuckle contest in which highly paid senior councils officials have tried every trick in the book to deny the equal claims of its lowest paid workers.
And for most of that time Glasgow's politicians have been looking on as spectators instead of choosing a side to support and getting involved on behalf of their local constituents.
Feliz Navidad! (25/12/18)
A chap I follow on Twitter (Hopi Sen) posted this great track by an American signer songwriter from Texas, Robert Earl Keen.
Now I'd never heard of Robert Earl Keen before, but I'll be sure to check him out because his music is funny and mischievous, as well as being a real treat for the ears.
Family get togethers can be chaotic, fractious and noisy affairs - yet strangely they seem to work, for the most part at least.
