Signing Off

MATT's cartoon in the Telegraph takes a humorous look at the sign language debacle surrounding Nelson Mandela's memorial service - during which it became clear that one of the key 'signers' was simply making things up as he went along.

The signer at the centre of the controversy, Thamsanqua Jantle, has since claimed that he must have experienced a schizophrenic episode during the ceremony - that he saw things and heard loud voices in his head that impaired his ability to interpret properly.

Yet news reports also suggest Mr Jantle has been the subject of previous complaints about his signing abilities from other South African deaf groups - so maybe he is just trying to pool the wool over everyone's eyes.

In any event, I imagine Nelson Mandela would have seen the funny side of things - and would appreciate MATT's cartoon.
