Shoes 'R' Us

Until very recently I was blissfully unaware of anything to do with Christian Laboutin shoes.

Not that I've bought any mind you - it's just that researching items for the blog site takes you to all kinds of strange places - and sources of information.

So when I read that the wife of the Syrian President - Asma Assad - had spent £,3795 on a pair Christian Louboutin shoes with crystal heels - I immediately knew we were talking about a film-star lifestyle.

Straight away my suspicions were confirmed when Syria's 'First Lady' was also revealed to have spent £29,200 on candlesticks and chandeliers from Paris - as you do when your country's in the middle of a terrible civil war.

Just as well that the great and good don't take their eyes off the ball - get distracted from the really important thing in life - when civilians areas of the country are being mercilessly rocketed and bombed by the brave Syrian Army.

But it seems the good times are over for Bashad al Assad and his fragrant English rose of a wife - Asma.

Because they're all about to have their assets frozen by the European Union (EU) - which is adding President Assad's british born wife (Asma) to the list of people blacklisted for supporting his brutal regime.

Good for the EU - I say.

Perhaps not suprising - the lifestyle and hypocrisy of the Syrian President and his 'First Lady' have been exposed in a series of leaked e-mails - since I doubt the Syrian regime operates a progreessive Freedom of Information policy.

In any event the upshot is that once Mrs Assad (36) appears on that list all her assets in Europe will be frozen - and she will be banned from travelling to any EU country.

Except the United Kingdom - because as a British citizen she cannot be lawfully excluded from her own country.

Although I'm sure a hot reception awaits her - if she ever decides to pay us visit.

I do have to say though that I think this 'First Lady' business has got a bit out of hand - they all seem to be at it - even though these WAGs have no official role.
