Get Your Message Across

Lots of readers have been in touch about the recent equal pay revelations in North Lanarkshire Council (NLC).

What can we do about the council's shenanigans? - is the most common question people ask - before going on to say that they are disgusted with the trade unions as well.

Well the answer is to keep doing what people have been doing up until now.

Raise one hell of a rumpus with local councillors and MSPs - because this is having a big effect with the council elections only weeks away.

Here are some suggested points that people might want to raise - either by e-mail or at a local meeting - but the key thing is not to be fobbed off.

1 Why is North Lanarkshire continuing to drag its feet?
2 Other Scottish settled these cases long ago.
3 North Lanarkshire set aside money to settle in March 2011.
4 So why is NLC still playing games one year on?
5 Why NLC trying to settle cases now on poorer terms than previously?
6 Why have there been secret discussions with the trade unions?
7 Why has the workforce not been kept informed?

The key thing is to stand your ground and demand answers that make sense - don't put up with baloney about the council's hands being tied - or that people don't know what's going on.

The recent Equal Pay report which North Lanarkshire tried to keep secret - of course - let the cat out of the bag and confirms otherwise.

I am re-posting the names and e-mail addresses for the five 'constituency' MSPs - in the North Lanarkshire Council (NLC) area.
