Whistleblowing Gets Result
A long serving Labour councillor in Glasgow has been stripped of all his senior roles - after asking if a 9 year old girl - an alleged victim of sexual abuse - wanted to be raped.
Councillor Willie O'Rourke - a Labour councillor for around thirty years - was suspended from the Labour party after making his incredible remarks about an alleged child rape victim.
William O'Rourke is reportedly asked if the nine-year-old girl "wanted it to happen" - during a disciplinary hearing involving the dismissal of a care worker.
Someone involved in the hearing has obviously spilled the beans to the press - and I take my hat off to the person concerned.
By blowing the whistle on this kind of behaviour they have performed a valuable public service - for which the rest of us should be truly thankful.
Councillor O'Rourke remains a councillor - and will continue to draw his public salary - although his comments and behaviour have been reported to the Standards Commission for Scotland.
Meanwhile Councillor O'Rourke has been stripped of several other lucrative positions from within Glasgow City Council - which earned him more than £37,000 a year.
The question that comes to my mind is - how can a person with such views be in such a prominent public position - for such a long time?
I suspect there's more to this than meets the eye - much more to come out - but time will tell.
