Raging Russians

I never watched any of the ghastly Eurovision song contests, but apparently the population of Russia has been whipped up into a frenzy over the fact that their entry (the favourite apparently) was beaten into third place by Ukraine, the winners, and Australia, who added insult to injury by snatching second place.

Now it's strange that an industrial scale doping scandal in world athletics has created hardly  a murmur of protest in Russia even though the government's own drug agencies have been heavily implicated in what amounts to organised, cynical cheating.

 UK newspapers have published some of the crazy Tweets and comments that have been encouraged by frenzied and outraged reporting on Russia's largely state controlled TV and here are a few examples. 

 All we can hope for now is that the World Athletics bodies stand up to Russia for their Mafia-like behaviour in relation to the use of drugs in sport by throwing them out of the Olympics Games which are due to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in August 2016.

SNP - Conspiracy of Silence

So here's the issue - two Glasgow MSPs (Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf) have been asked a reasonable question about their use of public money to employ two SNP councillors who already have full-time, salaried jobs as senior elected members of Glasgow City Council.   But these two public servants (both long-serving ministers) refuse to answer, so what to do next? One regular reader suggests raising the matter on the floor of the Scottish Parliament which is a good idea, but requires an MSP who's prepared to put down a written question for Scottish Ministers to answer. So here's a list of activities which will help shine a light on what has been going on because as Lord Nolan once said apropos driving up standards in public life - 'daylight is the best disinfectant'.
