Ashraf Rossli

The violent thug - Beau Isagba - who attacked a Malaysian student during last summer's riots in London - has been given a jail sentence of seven years.

Now the incarceration of this young man is not a cause for celebration.

Because it would clearly be much better for him and everyone else involved - including his own family - if the incident had never occurred in the first place.

But it did - and for once the punishment meted out seems to do justice to the crime.

Because Ashraf Rossli was attacked in a completely unprovoked assault - which left his jaw broken in two places.

The dazed and confused young student then fell prey to two other young thugs - who pretended to help Ashraf while robbing items from his backpack - including a PlayStation.

Meanwhile the original attacker - Beau Isagba - rode off on his bike.

The sentencing judge - Witold Pawlak - told Isagba:

"This sentence will, I hope, make other like-minded people think before they behave in a similar way to you, and also reassure the public and visitors to our country that this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated."

Before adding that Isagba had acted:

"like a thug . . . without any compassion” and that his actions had left the student dazed and bleeding. “Two days later he had surgery, and two metal plates inserted that will remain with him for the rest of his life as a permanent reminder of your brutal and impulsive behaviour."

So it's nice to see that Ashraf has his smile back - and that sometimes there is justice in the world.
