Slipping Standards In Public Life

We are asked to believe that Humza Yousaf who rose to become Scotland's First Minister just forgot to declare a friendship with a high-profile lawyer who was campaigning for a public inquiry into the death of Sheku Bayoh.

Astonishingly, the civil service were kept in the dark about the relationship in 2018 when Humza Yousaf acted as SNP justice secretary and met with Aamer Anwar, who was representing the Bayoh family.

Michele Thomson a backbench SNP MSP said:

“I was therefore surprised that it took Humza Yousaf until December 2023 to disclose his friendship with Aamer Anwar although I note the record still omits the fact he has also used him as a lawyer”.

Indeed, who wouldn't be surprised - the potential conflict of interest stands out like a sore thumb.
