SNP and Councillors Pay


John Swinney keeps telling us the Scottish Government has no money to spare - that their coffers and cupboards are bare!

So why are SNP Ministers pushing for a completely unjustified 19% pay increase for local councillors which will cost the taxpayer an extra £8 million a year!

SNP ministers are proposing a bumper 19% pay rise for councillors at a time when other public spending is being frozen.

What a terrible waste of public money!

Especially when the bulk of the extra funds come from designating all Scottish councillors as full-time when most are currently part-time - and have second jobs/incomes.


Bumper Pay Rise For Councillors (August 11, 2024)


Well done to The Sunday Post for highlighting a bumper 19% pay rise for elected councillors at a time when the rest of use are being told councils are trapped for cash and - 'there is no more money'.

A 'backbench councillor' is currently paid on part-time (two thirds of full-time) basis, but going forwards all councillors will be regarded as full-time and their salary will jump to £25,300 a year - even though many of them have other jobs.

Meanwhile Scotland's council workers who are threatening to strike are being offered a pay rise of just 3.6% this year!

Jim Sillars is spot on about the dreadful personality cult which allowed Peter Murrell and Nicola Sturgeon to run the SNP as a 'Mr & Mrs' tag team for years.
