The term Zionist is often used as a term of abuse these days, as code language for Jews when all it really means is someone who supports a Jewish homeland.

The majority of Jews are Zionists and a Jewish homeland has existed since 1948 when the state of Israel was created after a two-thirds majority vote at the United Nations.

People who support a two-state solution to the Palestinian question, people like me, also believe in the right of Israel to exist and live in peace with its neighbours - free from war and terrorist attacks. 

So the National should be thoroughly ashamed of its dumb, politically sectarian headline!
