North Lanarkshire Update

Readers in North Lanarkshire have certainly found their voice when it comes to speaking out over equal pay - I doubt things will ever be the same again which is great to see, if you ask me.

"Well said D!! I agree with everything you have said!

North Lanarkshire Update (24/04/15)

I've received some nice messages and kind words about Action 4 Equality Scotland over the past few days including this one which arrived via Facebook.

"Thanks Mark for everything you have done, there would have been no equal pay if it wasn't for you, the unions just tagged along because of you. It is exciting times now as no-one knows how much we are due back or what eventually our rate of pay will eventually be, no matter what our lives will be made better.

D"

Now I think it's true to say that without A4ES there would have been no equal pay in North Lanarkshire or anywhere else because until we started to shake things up back in 2005, no one was really interested in the fight for equal pay and the 1999 Single Status (Equal Pay) Agreement was dead in the water.

The unions in North Lanarkshire initially supported the senior Council management with the introduction of a fundamentally flawed job evaluation scheme which was implemented in a way that discriminated against predominantly female jobs.

I know this because I wrote about what North Lanarkshire was up to on the blog site at the time and reading these posts some eight years later brings a wry smile to my face.

So I'll put them up on the blog site again for everyone to share.
