NLC Update (20/04/15)

I've also heard from the SNP candidate, Neil Gray, who is contesting the Airdrie & Shotts seat in the Westminster general election which takes place on Thursday 7 May 2015.

Here's what Neil had to say on the ongoing situation in North Lanarkshire:

"It is a scandal that seven years on we are still talking about North Lanarkshire Council's equal pay cases. When I was out knocking doors in Chapelhall today I spoke to a number of women who have been fighting their equal pay cases with NLC for years. They are tired, angry and feel betrayed.

Progress has been made, but it has been slow and the Council has been dragged kicking and screaming to this point. Settlements are due, but we hear of yet more delays. The workers just don't trust their Labour employers anymore and they are using their vote in two and a half weeks' time to register their dismay."

Now I haven't heard from any Labour politicians (local councillors, MSPs or those standing in the general election), but I'm happy to share their views on the blog site, if they have anything useful to say.

What I do know is that if things don't move forward very quickly, then the campaign will step up a gear or two by using the general election to highlight the situation.

Maybe I'll invite the Scottish Labour leader, Jim Murphy, to get involved on one of his future visits to Lanarkshire.
